The Best Livable Cities in The U.S.

HARRISBURG (June 30, 2008) - Harrisburg-Carlisle was ranked 3rd on MSN's Real Estate Most-Livable Bargain Markets list.  According to www.msn.com, 2008 MSN Real Estate best bargain markets MSN says, "Why live in an expensive city when there are some great, affordable treasures out there? Here's MSN Real Estate's list of the nine best, livable cities where you won't need to trade the good life for the boring."

Witchita, KN, and Omaha, NE were first and second, with Madison, WI, San Antonio, TX, Indianapolis, IN, Pittsburgh, Dallas-Forth Worth and Tulsa, OK following the Harrisburg-Carlisle MSA.

Chamber & CREDC Economic Development Specialist, Brian Reilly, (age 23), who manages the local Keystone Innovation Zone is quoted in the article and cited as an example of a young professional touting the quality of life in the region.

To create the list, they asked Bert Sperling of Sperling's Best Places to evaluate the most affordable housing markets in the one hundred largest United States metro areas.  He identified the nine most livable areas where unemployment rates are low, where commute times are short and where there is enough entertainment and recreation to keep most people busy.  Affordability was classified by the ratio of median income to median home price.

"Once again, the Harrisburg Region's quality of life and cost of living gets us on the national radar screen," stated Dave Black, President & CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC.  "The economy is stable and continues to grow as the article alludes to, but we also have amenities that are identified with larger cities including a great symphony with a world class conductor, Stuart Malina.  We have shows, concerts and special performances by national headliners at local venues like the Giant Center, the Whitaker, the Hershey Theater and the Carlisle Theater, as well as attractions from HersheyPark to the Appalachian Trail.  Once again, we are acknowledged to be a great place to live, to work and to play!"
